Ouray's Perimeter Trail is a six-mile trail that includes: waterfalls, bridges, and a hidden troll. We hike a lot in the West and this was one of the best for variety of terrain and vistas. Descend to the highway and cross carefully, listening and looking for traffic. A little farther along, we crossed a country road and then hiked past the "baby bathtubs" on the Portland Trail section, which, from what we could tell, is basically a smaller version of the "potholes" near Silver Lake south of Lake Tahoe. The trail starts on a wood edged path . As the trail reaches Pinecrest Road, it offers an option of returning to town but to finish the trail continue uphill to a scenic high point with great views toward the east. Spray from the falls can be a little cold if its not a sunny, warm day and you get too close. Definitely a long hike! This was a fantastic hike for so many reasons. Ouray Ice Park is a man-made ice climbing venue in the Uncompahgre Gorge thats considered to be one of the premier ice climbing spots in the world.
